Japanese Breakfast Artist Rebrand

→ Art Direction + Design

Venture into the unknown with Korean American artist Michelle Zauner— better known as Japanese Breakfast. A unique mixture of indie pop and rock, she creates a hazy world of her own filled with melancholic arrangements and atmospheric interludes.

Inspired by her ambient sound, the rebrand uses soft, glowing gradients to convey a feeling of comfort and nostalgia. As symbols of death and rebirth, the imagery of butterflies pays homage to the album's contrasting themes of grief and love. Keeping it minimal, the sans-serif typefaces add structure in a subtle way while delicately framing the organic gradient forms.

Altogether, Japanese Breakfast’s artist rebrand allows for a fully integrated visual and audio experience like no other.
